The film by leading Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska is inspired by the events of 2014 that sparked a wave of discussions about the role of women in the contemporary world and the church.

The action takes place in a small town in the eastern part of Macedonia. Every January, a local priest throws a wooden cross into the river. Hundreds of men jump into the water to retrieve it. Whoever manages to catch it can count on luck and prosperity. At least, it was so until Petrunia was successful in this art.

In the local community, shock is mixed with rage, because how is it even possible that a woman had the audacity to participate in a male ritual? A small scandal breaks out, especially since Petrunia is not going to step down.
